DBI Beverage San Joaquin Policy
DBI Beverage San Joaquin believes that alcoholic beverages should be enjoyed, but enjoyed safely and only by those of legal drinking age. We at DBI Beverage San Joaquin want to be the best at distributing our suppliers’ beverages, but we also want to make sure that our suppliers’ beverages are used responsibly.
People are going to drink-whether or not they do it responsibly is another story. While underage drinking is a serious sign of alcohol abuse, Driving Under the Influence (DUI) is often the key issue associated with irresponsible drinking. If you consider the serious consequences associated with DUI, it’s easy to see why responsible drinking makes sense.
If you’re going to drink, DBI Beverage San Joaquin wants you to be safe and smart. Here are some basic guidelines for responsible drinking:
- Drinking should not be the primary focus of any activity.
- Recognize another's right to drink or not to drink.
- Set a limit on how many drinks you are going to have when you drink, and stick to it.
- Use alcohol cautiously in connection with any medication or other drugs. Example: Antihistamines and alcohol can induce excessive sedation, so it would be best to avoid this combination.
- Drink slowly-if you sip a drink and do not have more than one drink per hour, the alcohol will not have a chance to build up in your bloodstream. This is due to the natural metabolic functioning of the liver.
- Eat before you drink. Especially, eating high-protein foods like cheeses and meats will slow down the absorption rate so that the alcohol will not hit your system all at once.
- Drinking carbonated beverages with alcohol or carbonated alcohol preparations increases the absorption of alcohol into the bloodstream, while diluting alcohol with water slows absorption.
- When you go with friends to a party, you might want to have a designated driver-someone who will stay sober and drive the rest home. You can take turns for other parties.
- If anyone has had too much to drink, see that he or she gets a ride home with someone sober, or find him/her a place to sleep it off.
- If you’re hosting an event where alcohol will be served, ensure a safe and fun celebration for all your guests by planning ahead. Use tools like the National Beer Wholesalers Association’s Responsible Party Planning Guide for Hosts and Hostesses to help prevent problems with irresponsible drinking before they happen.
